Haynes is a Paideia Philosophy School

The Paideia (py-dee-a) philosophy "celebrates the fundamental notion that to be fully educated is a lifelong adventure that only begins with an individual's formal schooling."   A comprehensive course of study is followed that incorporates three complementary instructional techniques:

1. Didactic instruction;
2. Intellectual coaching: and
3. Seminar discussion.

We, at Haynes, are very excited about the creation of the many student projects and student seminars that are integral parts of the Paideia program. Click here for more information about the Paideia Philosophy:
National Paideia Center an affiliate of The University of North Carolina.  It is going to be an exciting year as we prepare our students for the future.

May 5, 2014

Dear Parents,

We are at the end of a very productive 2013 – 2014 school year! However, learning will not stop and students will begin learning academic skills for their succeeding grade level. We are proud of the gains that our students have made and want them to continue on their achievement journeys.

The week of May 5th – 9th is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers have worked tirelessly this year on behalf of students. Please consider showing your appreciation for them this week.

As our 8th grade students prepare to leave middle school and enter high school, we would like to recognize them for their middle school accomplishments. We will host an 8th grade luncheon on Wednesday, May 14th from 12:00pm – 2:00pm. Two guests may accompany each 8th grade student. We ask that parents R.S.V.P. by Friday, May 9th so that we can make accommodations for the appropriate number of guests.

Athletics play an important role in the history and legacy of our school. Our athletes were very victorious this school year and we would like to recognize them for their hard work. An athletic banquet will be held in honor of our student athletes on Thursday, May 15th at 5:30pm. Each athlete may bring two guests with them.

Please take note of the following important dates for the month:

• May 5th – 6th , TCAP Make-Up Testing
• May 5th – 9th , Teacher Appreciation Week
• May 9th, Cookie Dough Prize Party
• May 14th, Eighth Grade Luncheon
• May 15th, Athletic Banquet
• May 22nd, School Wide Picnic
• May 23rd, Academic Awards Ceremony
• May 26th, Memorial Day (No School)
• May 30th, Last Day of School (Dismissal at 11:15am)

Thank you for your continued support this school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Tonya R. Dennis                                            Ms. Michelle D. Hendricks
