Dear Parents,

Time flies when you're having fun and this school year is definitely flying by! We have already approached Fall Break (October 6-10, 2014) and a Teacher Planning Day (Monday, October 13th; for which students do not report.) Our students have been working hard and they deserve a break as we transition into our second nine weeks of school.  We anticipate many more student successes and encourage students to get plenty of rest during the break.

Please join us on Thursday, October 16th at 4:45 pm for our Homecoming game as the Wildcats will compete against Bailey MS at Haynes.

School Spirit week is Tuesday, October 14 through Friday, October 17, 2014. Students are encouraged to show their school spirit by participating in the following activities:

Tuesday, October 14th: Crazy Sock/Sports Day (students wear crazy socks and/or t-shirt/jersey of their favorite sports team with SSA, Standard School attire bottoms)
Wednesday, October 15th: 80's Day (students can dress in 1980's attire only, and it still needs to be Middle School appropriate :)
Thursday, October 16th: Wildcat Spirit & Jean Day (students can wear appropriate jeans with either Haynes spirit paraphernalia; or red, gray or white SSA shirt.)
Friday, October 17th: Pajama Day (students may wear appropriate pajamas. NO HOUSE SHOES.)

October is National Bullying Prevention Month.
Students will participate in discussions and activities emphasizing bullying prevention at school, online, and in the community.

Please make note of the following important dates for the month:

Monday October 6th through Friday October10th: FALL BREAK
Students do not report to school for FALL BREAK

Principal's Welcome Message:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2014-15 school year.  At Haynes it is our vision "to prepare students for the ever-changing demands of the 21st century by utilizing innovative, research-based instructional practices."

Haynes is the only health, medical, science design center in Metro Nashville Public Schools.  We have active partnerships with Vanderbilt University, Meharry Medical College and School of Dentistry, Fisk University, Tennessee State University, and the School of Health and Services and Mobile Market.  These partnerships provide our students with real-world and practical experiences.  As a staff, we support our students in the classroom, in the laboratory and on the ball field.  We look forward to a very productive year of learning!

Haynes is a Paideia Philosophy School

The Paideia (py-dee-a) philosophy "celebrates the fundamental notion that to be fully educated is a lifelong adventure that only begins with an individual's formal schooling." A comprehensive course of study is followed that incorporates three complementary instructional techniques:

1. Didactic instruction;
2. Intellectual coaching: and
3. Seminar discussion.

We, at Haynes, are very excited about the creation of the many student projects and student seminars that are integral parts of the Paideia program. Click here for more information about the Paideia Philosophy: National Paideia Center an affiliate of The University of North Carolina. It is going to be an exciting year as we prepare our students for the future.
